Community Forum & Public Intoxication Community Legal - MORWELL
Thu 30 May 2024
12.00 PM

Over the coming months VALS will be hosting community forums across Victoria to allow us to better understand the needs of local Aboriginal communities across the state.
We are hosting a Community Forum and Public Intoxication Community Legal Education (CLE) session in Morwell on Thursday 30th May 2024.
We invite all members of the Aboriginal community to attend the event and have a yarn with our Community Engagement Team.
We also welcome ACCOs and their representatives to attend both our community forum and public intoxication CLE session.
The events
Community forum
Over the coming months VALS will be hosting community forums across Victoria to allow us to better understand the needs of local Aboriginal communities across the state.
Following the completion of several forums across the state, we will collate our findings in a report that will be used by VALS to advocate for the community.
This report will guide our public policy recommendations and will allow us to better reflect the priorities of the communities that we serve. We hope this report will be useful for ACCOs and the wider community too.
VALS Community Engagement Team is hoping to hear from a diverse range of Aboriginal community members about their experiences of the legal systems in Victoria.
The conversations we have on the day will enable us to better understand the needs of local Aboriginal communities across the state, and it will inform the way we advocate for the Victorian Aboriginal community.
Public intoxication CLE
Presented by a VALS lawyer and a member of the Ngwala health-based response team, the presentation will provide community and workers with information about the changes to public intoxication laws.
The presentation will include information about the changes to the law, people’s rights, the health-based response, and how the health-based response is working in Morwell.
There will also be an opportunity to ask the lawyer and Ngwala questions about the reforms and health-based response.
Catering will be available at both sessions.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss the forum or CLE session, please don’t hesitate to contact Morgan O’Sullivan ([email protected]) and Bayden Clayton ([email protected]).
