Manero/Gurang Gurang man, born in Melbourne, Max made headlines this year when he kicked his 100th goal for Lindenow South Football club. He has become the first Victorian to kick 100 goals for a season. We caught up with Max and asked him some questions.

Did you play in the junior football league? If yes, what club?
I played for Paynesville Football netball club from Under 13's all through to seniors. I finally got my senior premiership in 2013 with them.

Did you play in the Koorie Carnivals? What does it mean for you to play in these carnivals?
I try and play in the carnivals every year. It’s a good opportunity to play with and against all the brothers. I also like catching up with the mob too.

Who is your Role model? And why? What inspires you to play football?
Growing up my idol was Che Cockatoo Collins. I loved the way he played and went about his footy. I love playing footy now that I’ve got 2 boys I try and inspire them the way my father did for me when I was young.

At any time did you experience racism, if so how did you overcome this experience?
I’ve copped a little bit of racism on and off the field I just make sure it doesn’t turn me off my game, at the end of the day it's only words.

What advice can you pass to children and young people about connecting to their culture?
Be proud of who you are and make sure you listen to the stories of the old people.
