According to the UN ‘there are an estimated 476 million indigenous peoples in the world living across 90 countries’. This includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mob.

Because of colonisation in various forms, Indigenous Peoples have always fought for the right to practice and protect their cultures and beliefs and their right to their lands and natural resources.

International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples aims to draw attention to the cultures and struggles of Indigenous Peoples around the world and highlight the global movement for Indigenous rights.

You can read more on the UN’s website or check out our article that explored 4 Indigenous cultures.
