Jaga Jaga was another Wurundjeri Elder whose name appeared on the Batman Treaty.

Jaga Jaga was determined to fight and win back his people’s land. In January of 1840, the government sent troops out to capture him. A battle (the Battle of Yering) took place outside Yarra Glen. Jaga Jaga was captured with great effort, but was immediately rescued by his comrades in a clever ruse. For many years he remained a much-feared freedom fighter around the Yarra Valley and throughout wider Victoria; he never lost his determination to recover his people’s land.
