Billi-bellary was one of the three Ngurungaeta’s whose marks appear on the Batman Treaty.

In the early days, when his people were planning an attack on Melbourne, Billi-bellary warned against it. He felt that the town was far too heavily armed. For many years in the 1840’s, Billi-bellary lived among his people alongside the lagoon in what is today known as the Lake in the Melbourne Botanic Gardens. He died there in 1846, highly regarded by colonists and his own people alike.
